Many times, we find that our garden is in poor condition, that some areas are deteriorated. To avoid it, it is best to improve it and do it before the season of use, that is to say in spring.

How can you improve a deteriorated lawn?
Garden maintenance is not limited to just cutting grass, watering it, or planting new species. On many occasions, we will have to face a deteriorated lawn.
The most common problems in a garden are related to the appearance of holes and lumps, with bare surfaces due to repeated use of the same or with bad edges that spoil the entire space.
When this is the case, it is time to arm ourselves with courage and patience and try to find a solution.
It does not matter if the garden is in poor condition from the beginning of its damage is a consequence of the season of use. It must be improved to be able to enjoy it in the best possible way. These improvements should be done in the spring or fall.
Next, we will detail what are the most common problems that we can face. We will also explain how to solve them.
Leveling the ground: the appearance of holes and lumps
We are sure that you have ever had to face a garden with holes and lumps. It is one of the most common problems and solving it is not a complex task.
One of the most likely causes of unevenness on the ground is the lack of preparation before planting grass. If you have not prepared and laid the ground correctly, it will not settle regularly.
Also, if an area is badly worn by repeated use of it, it is very likely to start to become uneven.
Fixing it is very simple:
The first thing you should do is to identify the affected area.
Next, grab a shovel and cut the hole or H-shaped lump.
From the centerline, roll the grass out.
If what has appeared is a hole, you must fill it with screened soil and seeds. On the contrary, if it is a lump you have to remove the excess soil, wet it and keep it moist.
Repair damaged edges
And what about the bad edges? The process of fixing a damaged edge is a very simple task to perform. What you must do to solve it, is the following:
Again, start by identifying the problem surface,
Once you know where to act, cut a square of grass around that edge.
Then run a shovel under the square (do it to a depth of about 3 0 4 cm).
Pick up that piece and rotate it. What you must achieve is that the deteriorated edge is below.
Secure the lawn well, fill the holes with soil and seeds.
Dampen the area.
In this case, you have to make sure that nobody steps on the area where you have worked, at least for a few days. The surface will be very sensitive and could crumble.
Fix the bare surfaces
Another common problem when over-using a garden is bare surfaces.
In this case, there is little to do. The only solution you have left is to sow the affected area and let the new grass begin to sprout. Planting should be done in spring or late summer.
If you have decided to replant, just remove a thin layer from the surface, hollow out the most superficial layer and add good quality soil and seeds.
On the contrary, if you prefer to replace it with a new piece of grass, it is best to remove a thicker layer. Then, fit the new section into the hole and tighten gently with the help of a shovel.
A yellowish lawn: why?
Improving a lawn in poor conditions is also solving the problem of yellow grass. On many occasions, we have come across a garden that loses its natural green and the most common causes are poor maintenance of it.
A meadow can change color and yellow for the following reasons :
Lack of water: When a garden is not supplied with an adequate amount of water, the grass begins to dry and turns straw.
Excess water: overwatering is a serious problem and if you add a poorly drained soil, the consequences can be catastrophic. In this situation, the idea is to establish a drainage network, improve the structure of the land with an adequate substrate and aerate the land.
Compaction: over time, the lawn generates a large number of dead roots that prevent the passage of light, water, and nutrients to the healthiest. A compact tissue is formed that we must improve by carrying out scarification.
